Job description:

Sunshine Children’s Home and Rehab Center is a 122-bed licensed nursing facility, located in Ossining New York, specializing in the care and treatment of medically complex children who require post-acute, rehabilitative care.

Sunshine is seeking Part-Time (22.5 hours/week) and Per Diem Therapeutic Assistants to join our team and provide high quality activity and play for children with complex medical conditions. Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Therapeutic Activities Program for the resident’s care, treatment, social and psychological adjustment. Opportunity for students interested in careers in the healthcare field. Must have a valid NYS driver’s license. Shift opportunities are available including afternoons, weekends, and school breaks.

  • Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Therapeutic Activities programs.
  • Provides socially and culturally age-appropriate activity programming in accordance with resident’s plan of care.
  • Assist with trips preparation and transportation of residents to community outings/activities according to established procedures.
  • Ensure that the department goals, procedures, and practices foster a therapeutic environment.
  • Escorts children in a safe, appropriate manner.
  • Maintains program space, setting up and cleaning up the room before and after each use and ensuring that toys and equipment are properly disinfected after each use.
  • Follows safety precautions, notices potential hazardous situations, and takes corrective action.
  • Implements therapeutic goals using modeling, positive reinforcement, encouragement, verbal cues, prompting, firm limit setting and support.
  • Completes Daily contact notes in the eMR.
  • Completes all mandated trainings/in-services.

Requirements

Formal education required:

High school diploma required.

Some college work in education; psychology or recreation preferred.

Previous experience required:

One year experience working with physically and cognitively challenged children.
