Sunshine is continuing the work as outlined in the approved phasing plan.

For the week of March 4, the team will continue the installation of erosion control throughout the property, await town review and approval of Phase 1b, “tree removal”  before Phase 2, “road improvements” can start.

In addition; the team will be preparing for the installation of a safety site fence which we anticipate to be erected within the next two weeks around the work site area. As always safety is our #1 priority. This fence will provide necessary safety of the work site to minimize the risk of unauthorized or accidental entry to the area. (This is not a part of Phase #3, which can only be done after the completion of Phase #2 and the sign off by the Town.) Test pits to locate existing underground utilities.

Week of February 25, 2019

Sunshine will continue with tree clean up and chipping. Though the campus may look a bit different without some of our trees, we want to reassure our families and friends: for every tree taken down — at a minimum 2 new ones will be planted for every one tree felled. When all has been completed, we will have over 230 new trees to enhance our site. Our tree plan is beautiful! We will also be doing some allowed layout and prep work in anticipation of receiving the Town approvals to enter Phase 2 of our construction project: our new driveway.

In addition to this information, this week many of our neighbors received communication from our blasting company-MD Drilling & Blasting.  This communication was part of a routine process that the blasting companies typically undertake when working on a project. This was not a blasting notice, but rather a communication for our neighbors including a “pre-blast survey” for their properties to confirm existing conditions. Blasting is a regulated procedural process that must follow stringent guidelines and include particular project specifications that are reviewed and coordinated with our design and construction team, as well as the authorities having jurisdiction over the event. We have begun the permitting process but are not authorized to begin yet. Blasting is to be conducted during Phase 3 which we anticipate to occur in late April or May of 2019. More specific information and notice to neighbors will be made available as we proceed through the Town’s permitting process

Week of February 18, 2019

Site activities this week will continue to focus on tree clearing and preparing the driveway coming up the hill.

Sunshine Wins Approval for Expansion!

We have some very exciting news!!! Sunshine has just received our final approval to move forward with the expansion of our home! Our goal always is to offer your children the best life that they can have and we have long needed more living space for the children, as well as for expanded therapeutic, recreational and educational activities.

Sunshine began the expansion process four years ago with the goal of accommodating more children and to enhance the care, health, and positive psychological growth of the children who live here. Our plans include a therapeutic gym and expanded therapeutic services, a therapy pool, additional beds, essential specialty medical equipment and circulation areas, improved classroom space for our school, and rooms for visiting families.

Construction is expected to begin in the fall and continue for a period of 18-24 months.

Check back for continued updates!
