Comprehensive medical care is coordinated through our Medical Director, Attending Pediatrician and Nurse Practitioners. Our medical team is comprised of experts in pediatric medicine, who are additionally trained and educated in the care and treatment of medically complex and chronically ill children.

Our Medical Services provides full-time on-site care, along with a rotation for after-hours on-call service. Sunshine strives to provide coordinated care and linkages between our services and the family’s community, including local physicians, services, agencies and schools.

Nursing Services

At Sunshine Children’s Home and Rehab Center, our professional nurses are highly qualified and skilled in pediatric specialty care.

Our nursing team is comprised of registered professional nurses who lead the team over Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants. They are on-site 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Nurse to child ratios are low and nurses are positioned directly outside each bedroom door.

Sunshine’s nursing team is trained in pediatric advanced life support and rehabilitative nursing. Their enhanced training and certification allows them to care for the complex needs of the children.

Rehabilitation

The Speech-Language Pathologists at Sunshine Children’s Home and Rehab Center have extensive training in the oral motor mechanism for functional speech, safe swallowing, and feeding.

Our staff is comprised of nationally-certified therapists who diagnose, treat, and support oral motor dysfunctions. Speech-Language Pathologists help patients develop or recover reliable communication skills through verbal, functional sign language, or communication boards.

Therapeutic Recreation

Under the supervision and guidance of our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), our Therapeutic Recreation team provides a varied and stimulating individualized activity program, designed to meet the needs of each child and with the goal of maintaining quality of life and improving health and well-being. Recreational opportunities include arts and crafts, music, outdoor experiences, sensory stimulation, reading, games, gross and fine motor activities, community visitors, and trips.

Our lush wooded property allows for an outdoor sensory play experience featuring an adaptive playground and strolls along the nature paths, and including stops at the various water features, such as our ponds with flowing fountains.

At Sunshine, Early Intervention services are provided to our youngest children (newborn to age 3) by our special educator and therapists. Sunshine also provides Initial and Ongoing Service Coordination, which assures for good communication between family and providers.
